China Overseas Development Association Successfully Holds the Sixth Council Meeting of Its Fifth Term in Beijing
On September 11, the China Overseas Development Association (CODA) successfully convened the Sixth Council Meeting of its Fifth Term in Beijing. The hybrid event, held both online and offline, attracted representatives from over 150 member units.
The meeting commenced at 9:00 AM, presided over by CODA Executive Deputy Secretary-General Jiang Yun, who warmly welcomed the attendees and briefly outlined the agenda.
CODA President He Zhenwei delivered an opening address, highlighting recent national events—such as the 80th-anniversary parade commemorating the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War—which demonstrated China’s strength and unity, boosting enterprises’ confidence in expanding overseas. He emphasized the guiding significance of President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative for Chinese companies operating abroad and underscored their role in advancing international cooperation and promoting Chinese values.
During the meeting, the council conducted a mid-term election to add vice presidents and reviewed and approved a proposal to establish new branches, further optimizing the association’s structure and service capabilities.
A key agenda item was the official launch of the "CODA Expert Committee." President He Zhenwei announced the appointment of Fu Chengyu, former Chairman of Sinopec Group, as Chair of the committee and presented certificates to the experts on site. The inaugural committee consists of 16 members from diverse fields such as energy, power, diplomacy, law, finance, and media, including prominent figures like former International Energy Forum Secretary-General Sun Xiansheng, former China Southern Power Grid Director Bi Yaxiong, and former Chinese Consul General in Houston Li Qiangmin. In his speech, Fu Chengyu pledged to pool expertise from various sectors to provide robust support for enterprises expanding globally.
Additionally, former Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Zhang Xiao delivered a thematic report titled "China-Kazakhstan Relations: Review and Prospects—Opportunities and Challenges," offering valuable insights into bilateral cooperation and policy interpretation.
The meeting achieved substantial outcomes, enhancing CODA’s organizational framework and professional service capabilities through the establishment of the Expert Committee. Moving forward, CODA will continue to serve as a bridge and platform, supporting Chinese enterprises in high-quality international expansion and deeper participation in Belt and Road cooperation. The association will collaborate closely with members and experts to seize opportunities, address global challenges, and contribute to a new chapter in Chinese enterprises’ global journey.
